The Marblehead Public Schools English Langauge Arts literacy block includes three main components: Foundational Skills, Engaging with Complex Text, and Writing. Oral Language is the bedrock of early literacy, and differentiated instruction occurs throughout our literacy instruction block. Marblehead Public Schools uses "Wit & Wisdom" as our literacy curriculum in grade K-6 and "Fundations" for our phonic curriculum in grade K-2.

Foundational Skills for all students are addressed via explicit, systematic phonics and phonological awareness instruction. Students participate in daily systematic instruction with active practice in foundational skills and engage in choosing and using authentic and meaningful complex text, reading for understanding, and responding to text.
